Manufacturer warranty vs repair warranty: what is covered
There are two kinds of warranty that can apply to a home appliance, and they are easy to confuse. Knowing which one applies to your situation matters before you arrange any repair.
Manufacturer warranty
This is the cover that came with the appliance when it was bought, typically one to two years, sometimes longer on specific components like a motor or compressor. It is provided by the manufacturer or the retailer, and repairs under it are carried out by the manufacturer or its appointed service centre.
If your appliance is still within this period, contact the manufacturer or the retailer first. Having an independent company repair it while the manufacturer warranty is active can reduce or void that cover, because the manufacturer has not authorised the work or the parts.
Independent repair warranty
This is the guarantee an independent repairer gives on the specific work they have done and the parts they have supplied. It is separate from, and does not replace, any manufacturer warranty.
Our repair warranty is up to six months, subject to the repair carried out and the part supplied. The exact cover, what it includes and any exclusions, is explained to you in writing before work begins, so there are no surprises later.
What to check before booking a repair
- How old is the appliance, and do you still have the purchase receipt or warranty card?
- Is it within the manufacturer warranty period? If unsure, check the documentation or contact the retailer.
- Is the specific fault covered? Some warranties exclude wear parts, accidental damage or limescale-related failures.
- If it is in warranty, go to the manufacturer first. If it is out of warranty, or the fault is not covered, an independent repair is a reasonable choice.
If you are not sure whether your appliance is still covered, tell us when you contact us. We would rather point you to the manufacturer than carry out a repair that costs you your existing cover.

If the checks above have not solved it, book a washing machine repair diagnosis. We confirm the fault on site and quote before any work.
